3rd Roundtable - Brand Owner’s Meet

“Study report on Recyclability of Multi-Layered Aseptic Packaging” – Report Launch

In our ongoing pursuit to share knowledge in ‘A study report on Recyclability…..’ series, Plastic Packaging Research and Development Centre (PPRDC) has organized a one day round-table with distinguished representatives from statutory organizations & industry experts on 25 th August 2023 (Friday) from 1:00 pm to 05:00 pm at the Hotel Taj Mahal, Nos One Mansingh Road, New Delhi.

At a special roundtable, a study report on ‘Recyclability of Multi-Layered Aseptic Packaging’ was released by Shree Deepak Mishra, Joint Secretary, Department of Chemicals and Petro- chemicals, Government of India, along with Prof (Dr.) Shishir Sinha, DG – CIPET and Mr. Ashok Chaturvedi, Chairman & Managing Director, UFlex Limited.

Joint Secretary-DCPC and DG-CIPET shared their vision on plastic sustainability to the participants. CMD UFlex Ltd. informed the brand owners and other eminent participants that the organization has made significant investments in MLP waste recycling facilities across the global locations of UFlex and very recently in enzyme-based delamination and recycling technology for Aseptic packaging.

Mr. Ashwini K. Sharma, President & CEO, Aseptic Liquid Packaging Business, UFlex addressed on Aseptic Liquid Packaging- Opportunities & Challenges and showcased advanced Aseptic recycling facility at UFlex Malanpur plant to upcycle Aseptic packaging waste to separate the layers, without destroying the paper structure for reusing to support circular economy.

This was followed by a presentation on Recycling of MLP (Category-III) - Recycling Methods by Mr. Jeevaraj Pillai, Trustee- PPRDC and Dr. Paijit Sangchai, Enzymologist from Thailand on enzymatic separation technology and a presentation on Meeting EPR guidelines for MLP (Category- III) by Mr. Vikas Garg from A. A. Garg & Co. Mr. Mihir Banerji, Secretary General and Coordinator, PPRDC delivered the welcome address and Mr. Manas Sarkar, Sustainability Lead-PPRDC introduced PPRDC activities to the participents.

Members from Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals (DCPC) and Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS), National Standard body of India, were also present to share their views/ ideas in this common knowledge sharing platform. The event was also attended by Brand Owners and industry experts from all over the country who deliberated on the future of recycling and EPR guidelines. The three individual study reports made available to the packaging industry to enhance the sustainability performance where multi-material multi-layer plastic packaging is essential and its recycling is not available yet.
